Woww! I'm glad the corruption has come to light. Not quite surprising though.

I highly doubt this is brought to light. Generally car theft rings go so deep its impossible for us to catch them all as our corrupt officials will cover for them. I feel this find is only one of many.

Wow i'm happy to see police fighting against internal corruption, its pretty frightening to know our own police officers who are paid to protect and fight crime are the ones actually doing the crimes.

It may just be a scrape off the surface, but at least it's something. This article will bring awareness of the extent of our country's corruption to many more unknowing or unbelieving people. The fact of the matter is, when you live in a country like this, you have to watch your back everywhere you go. Even, sadly, around authorities. It sucks for the good guys because they deal with the stigma and lack of co-operation from the public when most of the corrupt ones, especially the deeper in they go, are usually well hidden and protected.

Thats a positive outlook on it and maybe we need more of that. The major problem is that once they start, it usually stops in silence and then we blame the government and its a repetitive cycle.

I'm also very happy that the police did something against their own. It shows that we have some good people in the force and we need more!

There's also the possibility that some of their own (in the corruption) could have sold them out to make a point to others in the ring or other similar motives. These kinds of thing are usually well protected and well hidden so it makes me wonder. I hope the real message being taken away from this is that our officers are stepping up and holding any and everyone accountable for their actions. Given the amount of updates in the papers of how many they bring to justice, they certainly seem to be trying to clean up their reputation.

Do note that article came out 8th November 2014 and nothing more has been heard since.

Them crooked officers probably get transferred and out on the streets still

Or it could be that the rest of the story wasn't interesting enough or too risky for them to print. I've noticed the media picks and chooses what stories are made, and which ones are followed up on.

In other words the stories are fabricated by a large extent. Its done to protect them and make them a profit.

Hence the reason I don't generally read news papers.

They probably out there still, no way we could find out I suppose.

I don't know about the fabrication part, but I know much of it is greatly exaggerated and extremely biased. Trinidadian newspapers reek of yellow journalism. Whatever it takes to make people pick it up = $$, no matter what the content is. I read them when I need to know about particular things going on, but generally avoid them as much as possible.

We always knew it was the police officers involved. How else will people carry about their operations so smoothly and quiet! This didn't surprise me one bit. In a study done in Third World Countries it states that Government Officials and Defense Forces are the major cause of corruption and accept bribes. I am so glad that this happened but then what will happen now? Officers will be suspended with pay and be back out to work? Or will they be fairly tried in court.

1.I wonder how come they are not bussing the wrecker-ring where police officers are given a cut of wreckers money when they wreck cars illegally from the POS area and transfer them to get scrapped or sold over.

Great point! Perhaps such a story might cost them valuable sources from within the ttps?

Hence the fabrication. Its all exaggerated to appeal to the mass population. Sometimes its probably just not worth a follow up since its not going to be a juicy story. Journalism and reporting for the most part consists of some sort of bias and that to me is a good way to influence a population since people tend to believe in these stories and often times I find that key details aren't reported.

That is a good point. Its possible that the ring broke loose in the first place because it went sour with someone higher up in the ranks so they decided to spill. Maybe this hasn't happened with the wrecking just yet.

Agreed to an extent lol GOOD journalism is not supposed to be biased. It's supposed to report all the facts in an appealing, yet objective matter. If you only have one side of the story, a good editor will hold it/send it back to you until you get the rest of the story or just refuse to print it. Submit enough of that crap ( or just once, depending) you should be fired for being an asinine twat. When done well, it brings accurate information to the people and lets them decide what view they have based on the information presented. When done the way it is in Trinidad, (similarly to FOX news) it just creates drama and controversy; riling the people up who run around like parrots repeating the twisted, biased statements that were fed to them.

That's why I said its a good way to influence people as that's what it does. It doesn't lay out the facts and give people the opportunity to make their own decision. Its just taken for granted that news is news in this place until it reflects on someone. Then they begin to understand how their honest story was twisted to appeal and create drama.

Yes you're right, proper journalism isn't supposed to be biased and that is why I don't follow the news very much. I'm usually the last to know when things happen because of this. It might be disadvantageous in this way but it prevents me from having to process what's biased and what's true.

There is no such thing as an unbiased journalism in this country. We are rated in the top 80s in Global Corruption Index. Is either they are writing stories for gossip, bachannal . The more important ones are in a small heading at the bottom of the page or chooked in somewhere in the newspapers

Yup. I think I learn a lot more from watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report than I do by watching actual news. Trinidad news just seems like the same commess re-worded and repeated, time after time. We should do a Trinimotors News Show Report thing and show 'em how it's done! LOL! Although we might be confused for Anonymous because disguises are probably the only way most of us would get up there lol Pay no attention here, random sleepy thoughts falling out of my head is all. (where is Mr. Bollywood with some kind of hilarious Bollywood related distraction when you need him?)
