A 46-year-old man has gone into hiding after he was caught stealing women's underwear from an outdoor clothing line.
It brought to an end to speculation that someone was snatching the underwear to cast evil spells on women in the village.
For months, women have been complaining that underwear-all shapes and sizes-has been disappearing from clothing lines along Old Woodland Road, Woodland.
The father of three was spotted, clutching several women's underwear, outside a house around 1.20 a.m. on Saturday.
Omar Baig, a villager, said he was asleep when his dogs began barking outside.
"I got up and went outside and I saw this man pulling down underwear from the line outside. When he saw me he started running," he said.
Baig said he reported the incident to the San Fernando police.
A team of officers went to the suspect's home at Woodland, but the man could not be found.
But just as the villagers thought their worries were over, the thief struck again yesterday.
"We thought that since the police was searching for him, he would not strike again, but we were wrong. A woman said her underwear went missing from her lines on Saturday night," Baig said.
Police returned to the village yesterday, but up to late evening the suspect was not found.
San Fernando police are continuing investigations.
