Smoking ban on from today

The law, known as the Tobacco Control Act, which took effect from midnight last night, says you should avoid smoking inside any closed public area. What you did freely over the past years is now an offence, and you can be hauled before the courts. Now that the law is in effect, smoking in any public place is banned, and bar owners are ready to assist in enforcing the law...
The release stated that the Act was passed to protect individuals from being exposed to tobacco smoke, especially babies, children, pregnant women and the vulnerable and too prevent people from picking up the habit....

Yeah i saw them talking about this in the news.
You can still smoke while walking the street.
one thing the dint make clear is that if you work in home construction whether or not its a "workplace"

Hmm...in effect is one thing, enforcement is another. They should have full page ads in the paper telling people what they can and can not do now.

Yeh simple. Smoking and non smoking sections. Just today I went to the beach and my cousin wanted to know if he could smoke while driving. Honestly, I really didn't do what to tell him. Being a non-smoker, the ban doesn't bother me but not everyone can quit cold turkey like the government just so. I'm just waiting to see what other taxes they will come up with to counter the revenue lost from banning smoking in public now.

This ban doesn't really bother me because I don;t smoke. But to shed some light on the subject, one can still smoke in the open. The ban is effective to enclosed areas. Bars, restaurants, business places etc.

Apparently, under the act there is no smoking or non smoking section in public enclosed spaces. There was a full page ad in the newspapers which answered most of the general questions. It was helpful. The main thing is, you can't smoke in a place that is atleast 50% confined by a roof thus having limited air ventilation.

well tell all d ppl who's affected by d smoke to call d police an c wat will happen!!! coz which police takin up dat case, it can't be proven dat u just smoke, ah wonder if dey have officers awaiting calls to lay d charges, most of dem police does smok, coz dey comes by our place an smoke... u all realy believe dat go stop!!! it mite only stop in gov't offices

Well, if you see someone smoking in an enclosed public place, you have to report it to the manager of the place. If they don't do anything about it, they will be held responsible and fined for breaking the law. You can also file a report to the police but apparently that is only in extreme cases.

I have seen great results since this act in place.... Especially in fast food outlets, chinese returants ... No smoking.... Its good to smell the food inside of smoke... I don't think there are any reports in as yet for smoking...

I LOVE THIS ACT!! It good for them smokers thank god we will get rid of them parasites that litter in front of our faces causing us to smell second hand smoke and contribute to global warming. Hallelujah!

so far In port of spain in all the bars i went and in area 51 in chag they don't allow you to smoke, i don't smoke by my friends smoke and they can't smoke there

Yeah, people seem to abiding by the law, probably because its $10K per charge.

Smoking charge is alot more than smoking weed which is craziness, the government is so deemed on gaining revenue they are finding all kinda of way to gain money sadness in this country yes
