I've heard of people doing things like this and "throwing" things for people eg. building house, having a baby, buying a car, etc.

Its the norm locally. People just feel that nobody should have anything better than them and honestly, even people who have are like that as well. Only they must possess materialism. Its also racialism I find since people are being discriminated against on the basis of materialism.

i think as a multicultural and multi-religious society we would of respected one another but i guess we were wrong.

My grandfather said long ago before this political racial segregation , everyone used to live in peace and harmony . There was also a strong bond to know what families went through (slavery , indentureship). He said things started to change when there was political turmoil and then all of a sudden race and religion mattered

Come to think of it, I have met a lot of people who criticize others for having/getting things regardless of what they themselves have or do not have. Imagine if they focused on themselves instead of hating on others how much more they could do with their lives.

I've been told this by many people but I know entire families that form their lives and basic decisions around racism. Even my own family of origin had a deep seated hatred to anyone that did not look like them. Seems they missed the memo! Lol it's sad to think that our ancestors slaved and labored away to give future generations a better life and this is the outcome.

Its a failure of the current generation indeed. These days its about I and only I. Me and I are the two words that have importance. Everything else comes second.... That's the mentality which i am opposite to.

There are just some things which cannot be changed and I really don't know what is causing this racial and religious divide to be so strong locally. Will it ever cease?

Idk man I think it's different by area or family or something. Racism and discrimination in general even within the same race in my family goes back countless generations, they even tried to cover up different races and ethnicities in the ancestral history because they were ashamed. I went to school with other people that described similar mentalities in their own families as well.
