Four films go wide Ash Wednesday and the 18-49 demo will have no shortage of choices at the cinemas this week.

Edge of Darkness, Mel Gibson's first starring role in almost seven years hopes to find the same audience that made Taken a huge hit last year. Although Gibson has seen success as a director with Passion of the Christ and to a lesser extent Apocalypto, his image as an actor has been severely damaged because of various anti-semetic comments he made.

Gibson plays Thomas Craven, a veteran homicide detective whose only daughter is murdered at his home. While many expected the act was originally meant for him, Craven soon suspects otherwise, digging into the past of his daughter's work and uncovers corporate and government corruption.

Reviews are middling and it is rated 16+ but should still find an audience.

It's Complicated, starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin was a big hit at the winter box office in the US and I expect that the adult crowd here will enjoy it too.

Relationships are never easy, and from time to time they're bound to get a little complicated, especially when it involves being divorced with benefits.

Reviews are solid for its genre and rated 18+ here, it is bound to find the adult crowd wanting some mature content.

From Paris With Love, with John Travolta and Johnathon Rhys Meyers didn't set the box office on fire when it opened in the US a couple weeks ago, with most saying that they don't really buy Travolta as a bald-headed bad ass.

The film follows a young embassy worker and an American secret agent during a high-risk mission in Paris.

With mostly negative reviews and a 16+ rating here, it might not do as well as the other openers but it does look more fun than the dark Edge of Darkness so that may help it.

Chinese film, IP Man also opens this week despite being released originally in December 2008 in China. So why is it coming here now, two years later? Probably because IP Man 2 is being released in May 2010, so this may be to raise awareness for the sequel and gain some fans. To be fair, IP Man only hit US theatres in October 2009.

Here's the rundown on IP Man. In the 1930s, Foshan thrives as the hub of Chinese kung fu, with various sects actively recruiting disciples. Though Ip Man is an accomplished martial arts master, he keeps a low profile and only quietly sparring with his compatriots in friendly competitions at his home. But after an acknowledged victory to Jin Shan Zhao's challenge, Ip Man becomes an instant hero and then develops a craze for Wing Chun in Foshan.

Reviews were highly positive in China and environs, but then again that is a totally different culture. There is no rating for the film and it was officially released on DVD February 13.

That's it for now.

Yeah it has, then again, studios try to stagger some releases so that they come out against less competition.
