People get so sick now you can't even go in the cemetery to mourn a lost one, and even more justice will never be served
A 43-year-old woman who went to Paradise Cemetery in San Fernando to visit a relative's grave was sexually assaulted at the weekend.
Police said the Princes Town woman was seated on a tombstone next to a male relative around 2 p.m. on Sunday when a man walked up to them with a cutlass.
The relative ran through some bushes and escaped. The woman was thrown on the ground by the man, who placed the cutlass to her throat and forced her to have sexual intercourse. He then calmly climbed over a broken fence and walked away.
The woman made her way to the San Fernando Police Station, where her relative was reporting the incident. She was treated at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Paradise Cemetery was among several places in San Fernando outfitted with close circuit cameras.
City Corporation Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Marlene Coudray, said recently that the corporation's CCTV system monitors crime hot spots, including Lady Hailes Avenue, St Joseph Village, Todd Street and Paradise Cemetery.
A steel gate was installed at the cemetery two days ago, but bandits, rapists and drug addicts enter the compound by climbing over a broken fence less than 20 feet from the gateway.
