A 23-year-old University of the West Indies student was kidnapped on Friday and police last night confirmed that they were at a "delicate" stage of their investigations.

Both police investigators and relatives of the kidnapped woman were reluctant to provide any details of the latest kidnap for ransom.

One relative of the victim confirmed the kidnapping of Naila Sadeek but rushed back into the house saying it was a "life or death situation."

The Express learned that up to Friday, Sadeek was at her rented apartment located at Ragbir Trace, St Augustine.

The police were unable to say where or when she would have been snatched from but the Express understands that sometime on Friday night her father received a telephone call at his Preysal, Couva home from her abductors demanding an undisclosed ransom.

The Express was informed that Sadeek's uncle owned, Central Equipment Rentals, of Preysal Village, Couva. The company manages a fleet of garbage trucks.

When reporters visited Sadeek's Preysal home yesterday there was several relatives gathered at the home. One woman eventually emerged from the house confirmed the incident.

She said: "Things are very ticklish right now and we can't say anything."

Vice President of the Couva Chamber of Commerce Sharma Lalla, said last night that while he was unaware of Sadeek's kidnapping, he commented: "We saw recently a decrease in kidnapping but it may be rearing its ugly head again. We hope the police gives it the attention and priority it deserves and we hope the young lady could be reunited with her family in the shortest possible time."

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Gilbert Reyes, in a brief telephone interview last night, said "its a delicate situation. We have something going on right now," before ending the conversation.

Another kidnap victim, Naail Ali, 26 who was snatched on June 10, still remains missing.

This so strange, do they know anything? I Only hope is because its an on going case and they're protecting their leads. I didn't even notice kidnapping slowed down with so much other crimes going on it hard to believe.

See people trying to make a living and these jack off just kidnapping people and not fuc**** working they so darm lazy, people educating them selves and for taht you have to watch your back. You can't even think about having your own buisness because you would become a tag it. I getting to hate Trinidad yes

Yeah people are starting to not show how much money they have. It exactly like you said. You just have to look rich these days to get in trouble, almost like you cant afford to be successful anymore.

Greediness is what they only desire, they are mashing up our country and their is nothing we can do about it its proven look how long we are going true this. Its been too long

Wow is only reading this article that i really realise that kidnapping was low but has risen again... We so focus on the murders that we forgot all about kidnapping... I don't think that they look for only rich people to kidnap... Look at Vija Persad...His family jus had a mini mart... Since 2006 til now they have not found a clue of his whereabouts....

However alot to business people are targeted so i guess they have to be more precauious...

The family paid some what of the money and Naila Sadeek has been freed. See what happending is one people start noticing that the police are not catching the kidnappers they too may join in the act because the are thinking that they can't get caught. Thats the reality we live in today

happy she's ok but sad that the fact the police could not do a thing ...

Why did they not put a tracking device in the money so they can follow where its goes, tec is some small, they could have done that

the money should be marked....

Yea they are alot of things to do to get them. The bandits and the kidnappers have hi tect devices where the polices still cosing with out dated devices

That happens when you give people the idea that they have a right to the fruits of other people's labor.
From the time you hear people saying things like: "What's Bill Gates doing with all that money; people are starving," the ceiling begins to drop on your own head.

I think it's also the result of materialism too. A materialist world view says that "stuff" is what matters. People want to blame poverty, but most Trinis were poor not too long ago and there wasn't this level of crime.
