Several things to be aware of as gangs and robbers are now plotting different ways to get a person
Threat #1
Yesterday at 4.00 pm bandits robbed some delivery men at a house at the corner of Morne Coco Road and Laburnum Av. The house has cameras so that they were able to identify the car and at least one of the perpetrators.
They say that this same group's M.O. is to attack delivery people and they are responsible for about six such robberies during the past few days. The car is a black Nissan B 14 or 15. The number is PBF 9889.

I received a call from someone claiming that he was from my telephone service provider and he asked me to shutdown my phone for 2 hours for a 3G update to take place. As I was rushing for a meeting, I did not question him and shut down my cell phone. After 45 minutes I felt very suspicious since the caller did not even give his name. I quickly turned on my cell phone and saw that I had received several calls from my family members and some from the same number that had called me earlier (395-4380).
I called my parents and I was shocked that they sounded very worried, asking me whether I was safe. My parents told me that they had received a call from someone claiming that they had me with them and asked for money to free me.
The call was so real and my parents even heard 'my voice' crying out loud asking for help. My parents went to the bank and were awaiting their next call to proceed with the money transfer. I told my parents that I was safe and asked them to lodge a police report. Right after that I received another call from the guy asking me to shutdown my cell phone for another 1 hour which I refused to do and hung up. They kept calling my cell phone until the battery had run down. I myself lodged a police report and I was informed by the officer that there were many such scams being reported. MOST of the cases reported that the victim had already transferred the money! And it is impossible to get back the money. Be careful as this kind of scam might happen to any of us!!! Those guys are professional and very convincing during calls. If you are asked to shut down your cell phone for updates by the service provider, ASK AROUND! Your family or friends might receive the same call. When the phone is locked down your relatives are unable to contact you to verify you have been kidnapped. Be safe and stay alert! Please pass around to your family and friends!
Threat #3
There is a new trend involving the use of licence plates. Hi-jackers will follow you to a parking lot or mall. After you have parked your vehicle, they remove one of your licence plates and wait for you to drive off. They then follow you and overtake your vehicle while displaying your licence plate at their window as if you had lost it and they want to give it back to you. Shocked that your licence plate has fallen off your vehicle, you bring your vehicle to a halt to get it from them. This is all they want you to do and by the time you realize what is happening - it is too late. Your car could have been hi-jacked and you could have been beaten, raped and/or killed.
Please don't just stop for anything; a licence plate is of little value when compared to your life. Think what is happening before you react to it. Criminals can be clever and cunning and are ruthless in getting what they want...
Threat #4
There is a gang initiation reported by the local police department that gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in it... waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the baby. Note that the location of this car seat will usually be beside a wooded or grassy (field) area ...and the person - woman - will be dragged into the woods- beaten and raped- usually left for dead. DO NOT STOP.
Threat #5
IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD-
DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH
WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5% SO YOU ARE FORCED
TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF ROBBERS. THIS IS A NEW
TECHNIQUE USED BY ROBBERS.
