A man who was shot by police after he pointed a gun at them in Marabella remains hospitalised in a stable condition.

According to a police report, the shooting incident happened around 2.45 pm on Thursday when officers of the Southern Division Task Force were patrolling the Bayshore area during an anti-crime exercise.

Upon seeing the police vehicle, one of two men who was walking along the roadway dropped a Ruger revolver loaded with six rounds of .357 ammunition.

He and the other man then attempted to run away. While running, one of the men turned and pointed a gun at the officers who were chasing them.

One of the officers opened fire, hitting the gunman in his right leg.

He was subsequently taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he remains warded under police guard.

Police recovered the Ruger and another revolver with six rounds of .38mm ammunition. The other suspect was arrested sometime later and taken to the Marabella Police Station. He is expected to be charged with several offences and could appear in court this week.
