Percy welcomes Volney
By Leiselle Maraj Friday, May 14 2010

Come in, come in: Pensioner Percy Villafana welcomes UNC St Joseph candidate to his home in San Juan before a walkabout yesterday. ...
Pensioner Percy Villafana unclenched his fists and uncrossed his arms to welcome the UNC candidate for St Joseph Herbert Volney into his home yesterday as part of a walkabout in the area ahead of the May 24 General Election.

Villafana, who denied Prime Minister Patrick Manning entry into his home when he conducted a walkabout in that area in March, embraced Volney before gesturing to the candidate that he was allowed to access his walkway at Ryan Street, San Juan.

Villafana, 81, became a people’s champion for standing up to the Prime Minister and has now endorsed the opposition coalition for government.

“It is symbolic because Mr Villafana has welcomed the United National Congress and the People’s Partnership into his home. He has not given us the sign which means do no enter. That is his right to determine who comes into his compound,” Volney said standing with Villafana inside the gateway of Villafana’s home. Villafana’s sign has been a popular part of the UNC/COP coalition campaign with posters and jerseys depicting the crossed arms with the words “Do So!”

Volney said Manning’s attempt to enter Villafana’s home after he was denied was breaching the pensioner’s constitutional right of preventing anyone from coming onto his property.

Villafana endorsed Volney, a former High Court judge, as a man of law who knows what he is talking about.

In response to a question regarding his limited presence on the platform, which has been seen by the PNM as a lack of faith in him by his party, Volney said he has been busy walking through his constituency and interacting with residents.

“That is PNM ole talk. They are afraid of me. I started behind everyone else in this election race and the party felt I should be given the chance to walk and meet with constituents,” he said. He assured he will be speaking in upcoming meetings.

Protesters disrupted Volney’s maiden public meeting in St Joseph on May 3 to protest his decision when he was judge to free Brad Boyce of the manslaughter of Jason Johnson in 1998.

The imprint of what seemed to be a bullet-proof vest was seen through the yellow UNC jersey worn by Volney. When asked, Volney refused to confirm or deny whether it was a bullet-proof vest. “What if it is a back brace?” he said to reporters.

WOO does this give me the right to be disrespectful and stuff? wicked! I Joining this "na business" coalition :signlol:

Lolz.. So what if the man has on a bullet proof vest this campaign is getting uglier by the minute, injuries, metal objects, ripping manifestos god knows what will happen next

To hell what people think yes so its wrong if i don't want someone entering my house then, if its my house and i say no wtf it not wrong how cares if the prime minister. Its no disrespect to him and all how says what kinda of example he's setting for the youths well take a better look at your own self before you judge other people, just because the man denied The prime minister does not make him wrong.

What is wrong is what the prime minister did going to parliament and his meetings and spreeing out personal information about the old man, thats how a THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE COUNTRY OPERATES.

If some one opposes him he ridicules them and destroys their character remember what he did to rowley
