In the wake of the murder of prisoner Peter Garcia outside the Rio Claro Magistrates’ court yesterday, acting Police Commissioner James Philbert said criminals have displayed a new level of callousness, blatantly displaying no concern for law and order. In the same breath, however, a tough-talking Philbert vowed that Garcia’s murder would not prevent law enforcement officers from acting with full force in conducting their duties.

Philbert was speaking yesterday during a promotion ceremony of 14 police officers to the First Division at Police Administration Building. He said: “Garcia’s murder is callous. It is beyond what we would call bold-faced. It is very heart-rendering. We have had this situation where a man was killed while in police custody. “There are no words to describe how criminals behave. These are things we normally see in movies.”

Its seems like the acting Police Commissioner James Philbert is till in another world for he to make such a statement

We're just too lax with these things. Even this wont change much. Police will just take it for granted that there haven't been any other incidents like this. People already think the police are involved so their dont care attitude just making it worse.

Its like the movies because when someone goes to the police station to make a report the police officers sitting their and watching you and doing nothing. Its only like a movie in Trinidad because the minister of security is sitting back and watching this country being thorn apart
