HIV/AIDS

During the Carnival period, lots of money is spent advertising the prevention and awarness of HIV/AIDS... but recent survey shows that HIV/AIDS is rampen all round the year... It had also shown that while there was a DECLINE in the region for HIV/AIDS , Trinidad and Tobago still showed an INCREASE ..... People, please get tested before engaging into sexual activities....

At a time i don't know if this is still happening but some clubs in chaguanas people used to stick other people with infected hiv virus for fun

Some people jus don't care no more ..... especially the ones affected.... But it is a serious matter and recently i don't think the government is doing enough for the awareness of HIV/AIDS...

That's exactly the point- People dont care. No matter how much your teachers, pastors or public official tells you about the dangers of aids people wont listen. It's part of our "culture" a culture of lewdness and overly sexual behaviour. Thats what we like, sexual promiscuity and things like that. Aids is a lifestyle disease not just a sexually transmitted one, unless trinis are willing to show some self control and abstain or at least conduct themselves responsibly when engaging in sex and its related behaviours AIDS will always be rampant.
Of course nobody wants to hear that its thier fault, it is always someone else who is responsible for the mess we find ourselves even though we are the ones who take actions that cause the mess.
Sure their are extreme cases where aids is spread deliberately but the vast majority of people who got infected had a choice of whether or not to take a risk or not. Now they have the results of their actions.
Even completely faithful people should get tested. Sounds easier than it is but its worth it to know if you or your partner is infected. It's not a death sentence, people with aids are living longer than ever but it's not worth the risk of contracting aids at all just because you refuse to modify your sexual behaviour. You shouldn't have to wait to get aids to realise that certain behaviours are wrong... but is trinidad we like we "ting"

when you say it's in our culture, do you believe that what ever goes wrong in sweet T&T is in our culture?

If that is so, I do wish that the youths of today can seriously change our culture.... People like yourself and others in this site knows what is right and what is wrong... I just hope we all can make a difference in someone else's life somehow!!!!

By "Culture" I mean it's such a commonly accepted practice or lifestyle to behave like that. Trinidadians engage in practices that they know are dangerous, they know that certain things are self destructive but they insist that its good clean fun. I didn't mean to imply that that things like violence, suffering or poverty are our culture, but that actions that commonly result in these things are claimed to be our culture.
Having a knowledge of right from wrong doesn't ensure that a person will choose right. As long this risky behaviour is condoned and packaged in pretty ways to catch our attention we'd always fall for choosing the wrong thing. I mean most people only think that once something feels good it's good for you. Kids today dont have much standards to hold on too. With each successive generation the standards get lower and lower. It's just a terrible cycle, and the entertainment industry and others tell us that its our culture thier selling to us, when in reality our culture is much better than fetes and drug use and other depraved behaviours.

It's sad and real hard to say that our country has reach to this stage where no one cares whats going to happen tomorrow, today or the next hour... HIV/AIDS just keep rising and rising....I guess no matter how hard one can try to make the public aware of HIV/AIDS, its up to the individual to make that change....

It's easy to victimise people with aids but they are just like everyone else. I was watching a documetary on people with hiv/aids and they kept stressing on the fact that there is alot you can do to prevent yourself from contracting (or spreading?) hiv. HIV/AIDS is a very survivable or preventable thing but only if you know your status. If you dont care you're just setting yourself up.
People with aids live normal lives given they have the right kind of support, too many times we tend to hate the people instead of the disease. I dunno why it so backward, if the attitudes towards hiv/aids victims the better chance we have of dealing with it. Like is said before its a social disease, so it needs a social remedy. Avoiding people wont help but learning from thier experiences will.

oo thats good. treatment is good, but prevention is better than the cure....

yeh i agree that prevention is better than cure....How much can we educate people to practise safe sex....

To cure their addictions would be a good start. Get them to focus on other things in life, like the millions of hobbies and sports out there or other forms recreation.

nothings wrong with being a sexual being.. but the kids today are too preoccupied with sex, thats why i said cure the addiction. lol. it is possible to be sexual and not do all that crazy s$@!#$ stuff that we tend to see.

Our tax payers money.....We are helping them ...and them are the ones who neglect to practise safe sex!!!!!!!!

CDAP covers that.. i didn't know the have anti viral meds in that program. lol. You only need to have sex once to get hiv, so this push for less promiscuity gives people the impression that faithfullness protects them somehow. All it does is lower the odds. People need to know both thier and thier partners status it's that simple but like I said at the start of this topic people dont think hiv is a threat or underestimate the odds of contracting it. I guess thats the problem with having getting laid the only goal in your life.
