Mr.Henry Awong who is currently the VICE CHAIRMAN and Councillor for the Piparo / San Pedro / Tabaquite area fails the Tabaquite people miserably. Calls to his cell phone / work phone always go unanswered and if you happen to see him he will always say he will check out the problem within two weeks which never happens. This same man lives in the Tabaquite area and knows very much about the areas where the roads and infrastructures needs extensive repairs. The people of Tabaquite and other areas are fed up of this man and i really believe that this man should be removed from his post immediately because of his idleness of no work.

ACTING chairman of the Couva Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC) Councillor Henry Awong was greeted with locked doors when he assumed the acting position when Chairman Dave Persad was away from office for two weeks.

A memo which was circulated within the corporation stated that Persad was going to be away from June 15-30, but one official told Mirror that according to Act 21of 1990 the vice chairman will act as chairman in the absence of the chairman.
Officials at CTTRC told TnT Mirror that Awong was greeted with locked doors when he took up the position.

“There isn’t a convenient place for Awong to meet with members of the public.
“What will happen if a delegation comes to meet with the chairman?” asked an official.
Mirror was told that the reception area of the chairman’s office is the only area that remains open.
“Awong has an office at CTTRC, but it is not adequate or private to hold meetings,” said an official.

Councillors are calling on newly appointed Minister of Local Government Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan to deal with their ongoing rift within the council, which is split down the middle due to a rift between former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Waldron Smart and Chairman Dave Persad.

“It is time we begin attending to the people’s business; there’s a lot to be done instead of fighting among ourselves.
“Rambachan is a no-nonsense man and we know he will not put up with this,” one councillor said.

Efforts to contact Awong were futile. Chaguanas Mayor Orlando Nagessar, however, said that his office remains open for the use of the acting mayor when he is away.

Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan don't care about anybody but himself and he only comes for general election to make false promises. The biggest waste of tax payers money along with Councillor Henry Awong. You people may fool other people but the people of Tabaquite know what your all about.

just ah up date.....Local Government Minister Dr Surujrattan Rambachan says Plans are under way to make councillors at the 14 local government bodies full-time office-holders...he said that councillors do enough work to upgrade them from part-time representatives in their respective electoral districts.....
he also stated that The MP can sometimes get lost in dealing with the national issues..but the councillor can have a more hands-on grip on the local matters.....

Q..Mr Minister, how far has local-government reform reached?
A..Well, there is an act of Parliament which governs local government, but it has never had constitutional protection which it should have and that is one area which has to be reformed. The second area I believe which has to be reformed is that we must have full-time councillors. Clevon, being a councillor is not a part-time affair, and they are perhaps more in touch with the communities than parliamentarians.....
Q...Mr Minister, how far has local-government reform reached?
A...We recently launched the policy document and I will give you a copy of it in a minute....One of the things we have to do is to give this system constitutional protection....
