Girl, 17, found dead in orange orchard

The outrage continued last night in a country still reeling from the murder of ten-year-old Tecia Henry, with the discovery of another dead girl-suspected shot and body dumped at the roadside in Central Trinidad.

A man led police to the body of 17-year-old Amy Selena Joseph in an orange orchard off Solomon Trace, near Todds Road, Caparo, yesterday.

She was last seen by her family just after midnight Wednesday.

The report of her disappearance was made that afternoon and this time the police acted. A ground search began and the media called to get the news out after two men were detained.

Joseph lived with her family at Petersville Road, Cunupia.

But for the past three weeks she had been staying with an aunt at Point Pleasant Park, Enterprise.

It was Joseph's mother, Yvonette Joseph, 40, who made an appeal early yesterday.

She said the family panicked when the aunt called at 2 p.m. on Wednesday asking if the girl was there.

The mother said "I last saw Amy Tuesday. Around 2 p.m., she called to say she was going to Chaguanas to collect her certificate for the cosmetology course she was doing. Then about six o-clock she came to my house with her cousin to pick up some clothes".

The girl had planned with friends and relatives to go leatherback turtle watching on the east coast last night.

Police were told that Joseph stayed up late with her relatives Tuesday night playing games on a computer. The family went to bed at around 1 a.m., and Joseph apparently sneaked out of the house to met someone.

Two hours later, Joseph called a relative and asked that the gate be unlocked for her to get back into the house. She never came.

A suspect in the case has told police that Joseph was in his car when she found a gun and killed herself in a suicidal rage. He claimed that he drove to the orange orchard and dumped the body for fear that the police would accuse him of murder.

Among the relatives waiting and wailing at the scene last night was Joseph's cousin Travis Dowrich.

He said "It look like somebody pick she up on the way home and kill her. She was a nice, cool girl, and not the kind to frustrate anybody. Everybody trying to understand how (the suspect) could do a thing like that".

I think he killed her..you go tell me a intelligent girl like that and had no problems would jus get a gun from nowhere and kill herself and instead of her loved one feared for his life and cared about her he dumped her body ..wah de hell is that

A better question is how/why a girl like that would use a gun. Suicide by gun is rare in women. Men are more likely to drastically end their life, women you take less drastic methods. If the didn't mention any prior suicidal tendencies, he probably did do it.
The papers confusing she was by her house she talk to she mother tuesday two pm going somewhere, six o clock to pick the clothes up, she stayed up late at the aunt right? until 1, two hours later that 3 in the morning on wednesday she called to open the gate. So she got shot and dumped wednesday morning? So the aunt aunt called wednesday 2 pm after she obviously didn't come home. Then they started looking for her.

suicidal rage at 2:00 in the morning??? oh please!! she went out to chill with him and maybe they got into and argument and he just shot her and left her, but hey you can never know, sometimes people just makes mistakes, poor girl had her life ahead of her and somebody just took it all away from her, unless she did herself..,

number one is how did he come in possession of a gun
Two is if its a legal gun how will she get it form him
three is would any 17 just pick up a gun without even knowing how to use it and bravely just shoot too kill him self
Four why would you dump the body

Its jus silly to know that he can make up a story that stupid. Obviously he have more info hiding because he was the only one there and he afraid to say somethin

You know i watched the news tonight and the mother said that her daughter was never suicidal and she would not do something like that...I think the boy killed her. Tomorrow in Chaguanas police station he is appearing before magistrates and everyone will be there including Win tv to see the thing live

After autopsy they found she was shot in the eye now think about this if someone wants to kill them selves would they shoot their self in the eye.
Plus again what the hell he was doing with a gun and how the hell do you expect her to know how to use the gun.
