Was just wondering if anyone played or was into the Hollywood Stock Exchange (HSX) or played Fantasy Moguls at Provolona. I was the only Trinidadian ever on those boards back when it was on fantasymoguls.com, before they shut down the film game section.

I never heard about those they are games rite? lol the closest i every come to film games was who wants to be a millionaire

Yeh they're games. On HSX, they start you off with a porfolio of $2M (they call it H dollars because its fake and only valid in the game) and you can buy stock in real movies to try to earn profits. Stock prices are based on the estimates of what a film's box office will be after four weeks in theatres. For example, say Alice in Wonderland was priced at $100 per share, but I thought it was going to earn atleast $200M in the first 4 weeks, then I buy shares, and after it opens, the price skyrockets and I sell, making massive gains and add to my portfolio. You buy any movies you want, even if they're coming out years from now, as long as they've been announced by studios and given an IPO (Initial Price Offering).

MMG Mogul is a game where you are given $100 to buy real movies for prices which usually range from $1-$45. All upcoming movies are available and each competition usually last for 3 months each but start at the beginning of every month (Jan-March, Fed-April etc). The site sets the price and the goal is to pick the best slate with the money to end up with the highest cumulative box office. The person with the highest wins. That's the box office game, but there are many other alternatives such as Ultimate and Bankrupt leagues.

I know it doesn't sound very interesting, and actually quite mathematical and confusing, but it's actually really fun and addicting. I've been playing for years.

I've actually been thinking about starting a very simple box office game in this section but I'm not sure how popular it will be.

I have never heard of these games... even if I did i might not have played it. sorry. But i can see the draw of games like that.

Haha yeh. It's not for everyone. I think my weird likes of statistics and movies just go hand in hand here. Anyway, was just curious since I hadn't come across anyone else from Trinidad.

Well good for you. you can put those movie skills to good use..lol.

Anyone want to play this here? We could do it as soon as this weekend, predicting the opening weekend of a new movie.

Yeh. It's exactly the type of game I was thinking. Early on in the week, we put down the movies that are coming out at the end of the week, and people estimate their box office. Whoever comes closest to each prediction without going over gets points, like 10 points or something. After official results are released, we make a table of the scores and after each week, we just keep adding up the points. What do you think? It used to be a forum game on the old Moguls site.

An easier version is when at the beginning of the week I put down estimates I take from a site, like Box Office Mojo or something for the movies that are coming out at the end of the week. Say like Alice, Superman, Iron Man are coming out at the end of the week. I estimate them at $50M, $40M, $30. Say you think Alice is going to make over $50M opening weekend, you put 'Alice - Over' and you think Iron Man is going to make under $30M, you put 'Iron Man - Under'. Right predictions 10 points, wrong ones 0 points. It'll be a little less challenging for those who aren't too caught up on how the box office works.
