Alright my friends, CHOGM is over. Our TT$300,000,000.00 has been spent accommodating the leaders of about 50 nations. Even the Queen England and Duke of Edingberg was present. ( Their purpose is not very clear) Everyone ate the best food, drank the best wine, travelled in luxurious vehicles, slept in five star hotels etc, driven around on "their" new paved roads etc.
Our esteemed Prime Minister Patrick Manning, has indeed put on a very good charade..but I go get to that in a while. So the three-day "second" summit in 6 months, in times of a global economic crisis has come to an end. Leaders from far and wide came to the shores of our twin island republic to splurge and supposedly dabate important issues concerning the rest of the world. The main subject discussed at this grand meeting was that of the Environment. Climate change to be exact. So the leaders of these first world nations deliberated about ways to combat the greenhouse gases their respective countries emit in the atmosphere. They talked and pledged to ways to cut their carbon footprint. They even made a draft outlinig policies and measures which "they" claim would be the definitive "nail" in the coffin of the planned Climate change talks which is schedule in Copenhagen, Denmark next week. Anyways back to the tale. These first world leaders pressed on with the climate talks. Hearing all this, our good Prime Minister decided that there was no way he would be out-shined on this matter seeing that he spent TT$300 million dollars of our (tax-payers) money to host this event. So what did he do, he jumped on the Climate change bandwagon. After all, uncle Patrick is ah trini. And we all know, how we trinis is bandwaganists. I not sure that Mr. Manning evens fully understands the issue to begin with. But here he is pledging this and that. Now don't get me wrong spicians. I fully support the need for action concerning the climate. And i have no problem in our Government doing its part to aid in the fight. After all, the environment affects us all.
But the hypocrisy is this. Mr. Manning is all "hero" talking about hoow his government is commited to cut greenhouse gas emitted by this country, but his government is hell-bent on building an Aluminium Smelter plant and a steel smelter in this country. Both are very hazardous to the environment and it will indeed increase the emmissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by this country. So on one hand you pledge to fight against pollution, and on the other you plan to add to pollution. Where's the logic. And he has the audacity to defend his position by saying there are smelters in other countries that operate in such a way that no harm is cause not one leaf, animal or human. What kinda jack-a%%-ness this man trying to feed us? Hundreds of acres or forest will; or should I say have been leveled to start construction of the plant. Beaches have become unaccessible to villigers. There would be waste going into the seas causing fish-kill or lead poisoning to humans who consume the fish that inhabit the surrounding waters. He even went on to state that the standards that would guide the operations of the smelter locally will be more strict than that of first world countries.. yeah right? The EMA (Environment Management Authority) is a tooth-less dog that is incapable of carrying out its own mandate. So what de a$$ this man is talking about, that no-one wil be affected or harmed? I can just imagine the other leaders saying in their minds, is this man for real? Is he that dense?
So let us check. Two summits, a TT$480 million dollar Performance Arts theatre that will incur hundreds of thousands of dollars in maintenance every year, a 2 million dollar flag that needs to change every four to six months at a cost of TT$56000.00 per replacement flag, and here this; Mr. Manning will be attending the Climate talks in Copenhagen, Denmark next week!
Now all de face-lifting that Port-of-Spain and environs got, was not for the people, its was for Mr. Mannings facade!. Our guests came for three days and enjoyed simple amenities that the citizens have been protesting for for years. Oh, and the Queen (God rest her soul) complimented about the achievments T&T made since her last visit. Oh what hog-wash? T&T stop making progress since the last three General Elections. Yes...UNC was part of it too. Who vex lost! I aint care! We've been on a backward move ever since. Our esteemed PM does not care for the citizens of this country. He's too busy impressing outsiders with his charade. (Ah tell alyuh he was trini...he smart too bad) "Guests coming,so ah go pave de ol' road that I know dey go be passing... Ah go let CEPEP paint some stones and side-walks; ah go have de cleaners practically living in the streets so that, as soon as a plastic bottle or paper blow in de breeze dey could catch it, ah go clear some ol' bush by de side of the road (only de ones de guest passing doh). Ah go bring out de riot police so no activists cyah jumbie de scene with dey stupid protests for basic human rights, fair treatment and mandatory services from dey Government. Ah go say that I hold talks and consultations with villigers before i destroy their homes and environs. Ah go boast of de local health services, but if ah catch ah cold I heading CUBA." :haha:
Mr. Manning you are a cunning fox, I'll give you that. But no sir, you have lost you r way. the people of this country see through you hypocrisy. We watching, we getting ready to act. Come next elections, you are hereby fired!!!!
