The recent bruising Jupiter received from a cosmic impact is a violent reminder that our solar system is a shooting gallery that sometimes blasts Earth.

Still, what are the odds of a cosmic impact threatening our planet?

Today's solar system is far less crowded, and in fact Jupiter, having more mass and gravity, scoops up a lot of the dangerous objects, as does the sun.

Roughly 100 telescopic observations made so far suggest that 2007 VK184(don't know what that means) has a 1-in-2,940 chance of hitting Earth 40 to 50 years from now.

With all the problems we face here jus in Trinidad, we forgot Earth...

Yeah they track "near earth objects" and determine the chances of hitting earth. They dont really have much technology to divert anything that well so the sooner they calculated it the odds the more time they have to deal with it. The odds are still large not extremly likely as rolling a six on a dice or picking a jack of clubs from a deck anything similar.
