Should we have a return of corporal punishment in schools? School violence is on the rise and we are seeing that the fights are becoming more violent. Do you think that when there was corporal punishment in schools that violence in school was not as imminent as in recent times?

Yup children now need to know their places. I'm not saying beat them like long time but severe measures need to be put into place to deal with these naughty children and school bullies. In ASJA Girls' College there are cameras in the bath rooms and on all floors of the school where they are monitored round the clock.

That is an awesome initiative. It will be wonderful to see this in all the schools across Trinidad and Tobago, but unfortunately this will be too costly for the GOTT to finance. What is also happening is that we are seeing that many parents are no different from their children. In fact, some parents are teaching and encouraging their children to be bullies at school.

My concern is...should parents be held accountable for children disobedience in schools?

Yes of course.. Discipline like everything else starts from the home. Parents supposed to be nurturing and a role model . If children see their parents cursing , taking in a rough manner, their parents fighting or not spending time with them they are going to revolt . Bullies come from abusive , dysfunctional families with no values and morals . I think that there should be more than one school counselors for each school and teachers should be trained to target these children in their classes and proceed accordingly .
