A 36-year-old driver who tricked two people into giving him a total of $30,500 as a down payment for a vehicle has been jailed for 16 months.

According to a statement from the Police Service Marlon Des Vignes appeared before Magistrate Natalie Diop who jailed him on two charges of larceny by trick. The matter was heard in the San Fernando court.

Des Vignes, a driver, of South Oropouche, pleaded guilty. In the first incident, Des Vignes collected $13,000 from a woman between the period March 2 and March 5 as part down payment towards the purchase and delivery of a Nissan Tiida.

Des Vignes also collected $17,500 from a man between May 12 and June 8 also as a downpayment for a car.

According to the release, the victims later found out that Des Vignes was not in a position to deliver on the cars and they asked for a refund.

When Des Vignes failed to pay them back, they made a report at the Fruad Sqaud. Des Vignes was arrested in the Barataria area on June 21. Investigations were supervised by acting Senior Supt Totaran Dookhie and Insp Prakash Matura while WPC Euphemia Huggins laid the charges.
