8.8 EARTHQUAKE in CHILE

Will this affect us in any way because i have been hearing talk about this and people are saying its coming to Trinidad so i don't know how true is that. I have been out all day so please i need to know whats really going on

We on the atlantic side of south america. Chile is on the pacific side. Places like Australia, Japan, Western states in america and Polynesian Islands could be affected. Central and South America is between us an the wave. For it to reach us it will have to pass over the entire continet.. that and it's moving away from south america anyway.

well The tsunami wasn't as huge as expected in Hawaii:
No loss of life or major damage reported.... not even minpr damage... :icon_surprised:

Haha...that made me laugh though. When the news was that we were going to get an earthquake in the coming hours. How the hell these people figure that out? They're psychic? Like they discover a way to predict earthquakes and they keeping it secret.
Well as for the real issues, I think the total of the dead is up to 708 last time I was watching BBC. That earthquake was MASSIVE though...damn 8.8.
As for Trinidad, I think it is inevitable that we get one soon though. There is a lot of plate activity in the region as seen with Haiti and now Chile, so maybe its just about that time. The most we could hope for is that the epicenter is deep so it doesn't cause too much structural damage.

The images on this earthquake in Chile was real bad.... People choose to sleep outside of building fearing for the worst. Louting has occur and police spraying them with water... But the good thing about this was that the goverment has moved fast in repairing the country.... They also said they did not need any help from other countries...Guess they had things in place for such a diaster...

Yeh, the gov't seems to be on top of things. I actually admire the President for refusing some aid. In the news release they said they would be selectively accepting what they needed so that they didn't unnecessarily flood the airport and disrupt other needed efforts. Plus, I'm sure whatever they don't need, Haiti would willingly accept.
