TEEN HACKED TO DEATH

The killers of 18-year-old Mikel Dowell, whose head was almost severed in the brutal attack, realised they had made a mistake while fleeing the scene at King Street in St Joseph on Tuesday night.

An eyewitness heard one of the two men who chopped Dowell, shout to the other, that they had murdered the wrong person.

That Dowell’s killing was a case of mistaken identity was no consolation to his mother Avril Dowell and father Nigel Alexander.

“He was so innocent. He was a very good boy and I am not saying that just because he is my son. Everyone in the village can attest to that. He was loved by everyone,” Avril said during an interview at the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday.

Police said that about 6.30 pm on Tuesday, Dowell was returning to his mother’s Savary Street, St Joseph home after purchasing doubles from a vendor.

As he and a friend approached King Street, two men walked up to them. One of the men, armed with a cutlass dealt Dowell a hard blow to the neck. The teenager’s head was almost completely chopped off and he fell into a drain.

As the men ran off, one of them shouted that they had made a mistake and killed the wrong person, a passerby later told police.

I read this article in the daily newspaper today. It is really traggic. To meet death in such an unssavoury manner. Like I said on countless occasions, there is abosolutely "NO" value for human life in this country anymore.

Omfg. my hands trembling. i feeling so disgusted in this country. how could people do this. imagine someone do you bad and you going to kill them and you kill the wrong person. how sick is all this. how sick is this country ..........no comment

Is only in Trinidad that a crime can be performed and the criminals would not be caught, Parents how are you raising your children?

Good point Admin. When yuh hear them "gunman" and dem found in a drain dead like a dog, there parents are the first one on the TV talking bout their child was the best thing. But when they were talkin de money he bringing home knowing fully well he aint have no job, and not asking no questions, knowing very well that in illegal activities, it wasn't a problem. I am deeply sorry for the family of the innocent victim.

ppl frade to say wat dey see an heard ( ah can't blame dem ) but remember it could be u next time. up to now police dont have any answers as to who beheaded Andy (nephew)

Police most of the time does assume things madsuya and as a case don't really have any evidence they does drop it and carry on their little lives and we is the ones who are left without answers.. I am sorry really for the boy's parents at this time that he had to be the victim of someone else's mistaken identity
