Do you all think Carnival Will be affected By this Big Beyonce Concert.almost 3 million dollars have been profited from this via tickets and carnival committees are complaining that it is taking away their usual yearly customers. 200 foreigners have bought tickets to this concert and bands are beginning to feel the pressure because a little bit of them are placing their orders.

I think that TSTT Real Dotish! Because Imagine this is TRINIDAD AND CARNIVAL IS PART OF WHO WE ARE AND OUR CULTURE SINCE SLAVERY AND NOW WE HEAR SOME SUPERSTAR COMING DOWN AND WE RATHER SEE HER THAN SUPPORT OUR OWN COUNTRY. If beyonce had to come down, schedule her for sometime else and so much for a damn TICKET! WE PAY LESS TO SEE LEGENDS IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS!

Re: Do You Carnival Will Be Affected

Its a bit selfish because i'm sure people who bought these tickets would not really be part taking in any fetes (because of the cost of the tickets) And the main highlight would not be on carnival anymore it would be on Beyonce.

Those foreigners who bought the tickets are not coming for the carnival but only for beyonce, i have no problem for her coming downing but have it some other time other than carnival.

Re: Do You Carnival Will Be Affected

The way I see it where their is a need someone is there to exploit it. No one is forcing these people to buy tickets to beyonce. They obviously belive they're getting their money's worth. If their was no demand for foreign artists then concerts like this would fail. Look at all the rock and alternative concerts they seems well attended too. Same with chutney concerts. Not even is into jam and whine music. Not everyone is into carnival. Expecting everyone to be all caught up in carnival buzz just because we are Trinidadians is insensitive and culturally imperialistic. Why are we suddenly hating on people who have minds of their own.
When will people realise that the local entertainment industry is overrated. When is the last time a calypsoian broke out into OUR SCENE. Its alway soca this and soca that. Soca only works because it fills fetes and parties. It only works because it sells carnival tickets. Other types of locally produced music get NO airplay because someone is convinced it will make NO MONEY. It's all about money. Beyonce is threathening theis ability to make money. It has nothing to do with local culture. Foreign imported entertainment has been with us forever.
People aren't that stupid they say for good products.. local producers need to up their quality. This isn't culture its entertainment. YOU DONT PAY FOR CULTURE.

Re: Do You Carnival Will Be Affected

I understand what you're saying and all...but let's be real. It has nothing really with local producers uping their ante. To see Beyonce live is a once in a lifetime opportunity for those that care enough. They "WILL" boycott some fetes to go to the Beyonce concert. Carnival is a yearly event. Beyonce is once. Do the math. If one decides to boycott a fete or two for a chance to see "the Beyonce" they won't think twice about it. There's always next year. It has been long established that our people do not appreciate local music. That generation has passed into memory. This generation is more interested in international stars. Let's not fool ourselves here. For 2009, Vybz Kartel dominated the urban radio stations. He probably got as much airplay as he got in his own country. Every tune this guy put out was met with acceptance. The radio dj's hype them up, and pull de tune 16 times. And he's not the only artist that are given the spotlight locally. Trinidadians are more keen to follow the lives of those in other countries than our own. It has nothing to do with local artists needing to up thier ante. We have alot of talent right here. If a local guy was to sing a tune, and an international artiste sing that same tune, who do you think will get more airplay? We don't love nor appreciate our own. In closing..yes the Beyonce concert WILL infact hurt fetes during the carnival season. Don't be so naive as to think that all those people who are purchasing tickets for the concerts are ONLY people who not into the carnival. There are alot of "carnival jumbies" who are boycotting fetes to pay the exhorbant prices of concert tickets.

Re: Do You Carnival Will Be Affected

ppl who play carnival done buy their costume so dat wount affect carnival!!!
ppl love soca and chutney so dem ah missing none, we love baccanal an we
will be all over so she only (Beyonce) getting rich ppl money

Re: Do You Carnival Will Be Affected

Yeh but what i am saying carnival loosing sponsors for example bmobile ..now bmobile hosting beyonce

Re: Do You Carnival Will Be Affected

Digicel can capitalize on that.
What Wispa said is true. Does anyone realise we have absolutely no film industry? The vast majority of movies shown are from hollywood and bollywood. Hell even nigerian movies are finding their way here. It's not like we have no movie makers or the capacity to create good content. It's just that there is no demand at all for local stuff. Everyone elses stuff always looks cooler than ours.
I'll repeat myself again this is not a cultural thing its all entertainment. Culture creates national identity. Carnival is only a part of that.
Beyonce is no different from other famous international artists. People are only bugging because of the timing. If she came in june they're be none of this culture talk more people would've jumped on the beyonce bandwagon. They'd be just as thrilled to see this superstar.

Re: Do You Carnival Will Be Affected

All in all...the timing was bad. But then again, she was already wrapping up doing the South American leg of her tour. So it was an opportune time to get her to come to our shores. She's already in the region. So Bmobile siezed the opportunity. Remember Bmobile has always brought in international artists for their B3 concerts. Rhianna, Chris Brown (I think) Sean Paul, John Legend... so it's in keeping with their corporate image as a billion dollar company.
