Three new releases go wide this week in Trinidad and again everyone should find something that appeals to them.

First up its Tim Burton's rendition of the classic, Alice In Wonderland. Of its many appeals, the one that will strike the most with Trinis is the 3D factor which made Avatar (among other things) a huge hit here. Avatar has grossed close to $616,000US ($3.88MTT) in TT alone. Add Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter to that list and a known story to the rousing visuals and you've got yourselves packed houses. If you're planning on seeing it in 3D this weekend, I suggest you go atleast two hours before your desired showtime and buy tickets.

I expect it to be rated PG, so it is family-friendly, although some scenes may be scary for kids. Early reviews are strong.

Next up is the cop-buddy comedy, Cop Out, which was formerly titled A Couple of Dicks. Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan co-star in a film about long time police partners who get caught up in a mission trying to retrieve very valuable sports memorabilia. Yeh, doesn't sound very comical and Willis is definitely getting old. Atleast he's making another Die Hard.

It is rated R in the US, so it should be around 14+ - 16+ here. Reviews are terrible, mostly based on it being very cliche and somewhat slow-paced but teens (especially males) might check it out if they think Alice is too childish.

Lastly, a film that should appeal to the more mature adults looking for dramatic fare, Extraordinary Measures stars Harrison Ford and Brendon Fraser as a father and a doctor trying desperately to find a cure for his son's illness at all costs. Its based on a true life story, like The Blind Side, but unfortunately is no where as good, or not nearly as successful. It bombed at the US box office, and shouldn't do much better here.

It should be rated PG, but reviews were bad with most critics saying it appeared very "made for tv".

Sorry for missing last week, especially when Shutter Island opened here. Martin Scorsese is one of my all-time favourite directors and Leo DiCaprio is one of my favourite actors! If you haven't seen the movie, check it out, its a great supernatural suspense/thriller.

My Name is Khan also opened, making it the third big Indian film of 2010 to hit TT cinemas. It reunites Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in a film about the perceptions of the Muslim/Hindu race and community and the discrimination they faced after the events of 9/11 in the US. It is earning very positive reviews and breaking box office records both in India and worldwide for an Indian film.

Re: This Week: Alice in Wonderland, Cop Out, Brooklyn's Finest +

I want to see Cop Out i'm a huge Bruce Willis fan and Tracy Morgan is one funny dude, i sure this movie will be great,

My Mom and and my sis want to go and see My Name is Khan i'm not into indian movies but they are seems like that might also be a hit for more of the indo community

Re: This Week: Alice in Wonderland, Cop Out, Brooklyn's Finest +

I'm not feeling Cop Out at all. I'll probably be seeing Alice in Wonderland on Wednesday. I'm not into indian movies either. I haven't seen one in YEARS lol BUT it seems interest in this genre has definitely picked up since the opening of MT Chaguanas. Dulha Mil Gaya was selling out after weeks in release and 3 Idiots is said to be doing well. My Name Is Khan should follow suit, although it is much more serious in tone.

Re: This Week: Alice in Wonderland, Cop Out, Brooklyn's Finest +

It should do amazing with it having a shorter release and Avatar finally slowing down, plus it steals most of its 3D screens. MC Tracking has it at $88M OW! That's huge. I don't think it'll put up those numbers since the Oscars is on Sunday. It might hurt box office since everyone will be tuning in to see if Avatar takes the big prize. I think more along the lines of $70M OW.

Re: This Week: Alice in Wonderland, Cop Out, Brooklyn's Finest +

Wow Friday estimates have Alice in excess of 40 million! That could mean over 100 million for the weekend. It's been selling out in places so even if it is frontload the initial drop may not be that huge. But as a children friendly movie it has alot more to make legs should be reasonable.

Re: This Week: Alice in Wonderland, Cop Out, Brooklyn's Finest +

ah c d preview for d arrow head fella....Avatar.... d last airbender....dat will b big....for some ppl ah know..lol....

Re: This Week: Alice in Wonderland, Cop Out, Brooklyn's Finest +

Avatar: The Last Airbender is going to be huge, and the return of M. Night Shyamalan to popularity.

I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D and thought it was okay. 7/10. The story was a bit slow and the 3D was good but not great. Mostly because it wasn't filmed in 3D but converted to 3D from 2D after production which is a huge difference. I thought the Cheshire cat and The Red Queen were the best parts of the film.

Hey TFM, i really like how you started off this topic. You have some movie skills there.. kudos man.
Anyways, I haven't seen any of the movies coming out as yet. I will definitely go see Alice in Wonderland. Any movie with director Tim Burton, long time collaborator Johnny Depp is a must see for me. It seems that Johnny Depp feels right at home playing another unorthodox character ever since he stepped into the role of Captian Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Plus i'm waiting to see the day when Tim Burton will direct a film that he's not casting his wife in..lol Anne hatherway is always a joy to see, so in short i'll be seeing that show. Cop Out does not appeal to me at all. Besides having Tracey Morgan in it, don't see a reason to. As for the critics opinion, i could not care less about their opinion. For and update, Alice in Wonderland broke the record for opening weekend of a 3D film, taking US$116 million easily passing the US$77 million set by 2009's Blockbuster AVATAR.

Thanks man! I'm a huge film fanatic..hence my name TFM=The Film Monster.

Yeah, Johnny Depp seems to have made his career go into the stratosphere playing CHARACTERS. These odd-ball, very animated characters that no one else would attempt to pull off.

Haha, yes, Helena Bonham Carter does benefit from being the wife of Burton (this is her fifth straight colab with him), but she's amazing at playing creepy people, see Bellatrix in the Harry Potter series.

Alice is doing big business right now, you're right. This success will only help fuel to changeover to 3D for most movies.

True. I espescially loved her role in the Sweeny Todd movie. Along with none other than Johnny Depp. And directed by.. you guessed it, Tim Burton. I must admit that they all have an incredible chemistry when they work on a project.

Whiel your passion may be the "movie" itself... I put as much empasis into the musical score of a movie. i love music. Espescially epic scores. Some that come to mind is the genius composer Brian Fidel who did the score for the 1982 Tim Burton-directed Batman that starred Micheal keaton. He also composed the score for James Cameron's epic sci-fi classic Terminator 2 judment day. James Howard and Hanz Zimmer did that incredible brooding music for Batman Begins and its successor, Dark knight. I think we can really do some really interesting post in the entertainment section together. You with the movie and me with the musical score..

I definitely love the music too. So coincidental because JUST LAST NIGHT, I downloaded the Hans Zimmer soundtrack for Sherlock Holmes and the Danny Elfman soundtrack for Alice in Wonderland (not the "Almost Alice" soundtrack for the movie that has songs from Avril Lavigne and others). Love those too. Oh and the SHUTTER ISLAND soundtrack is amazing.

i think me and admin might see Alice sunday so when we do i'll post up some reviews

Cool.. haven't gotten around to getting the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack yet. Shutter Island will be on my list soon. I also have the soundtrack for the Lord of the rings trilogy. Totally epic. I also have album score for games. Like Mass Effect and God of War name a few.

God of War is just great in every way. I will check out the Mass Effect s-track. Talking about Mass Effect, I was playing the other day and my 360 went total RRoD. RED RING OF DEATH. Thank god I have extended warranty so gonna trade it and probably get the Elite since I have the Pro right now. It rel piss me off though. Thinking about just going over to Sony too, cus like they will never bring God of War over to the Xbox console.

Weekend Box Office Estimates:

1. Alice in Wonderland - $62M. (6th Best 2nd Weekend EVER)
2. Green Zone - $14.5M. (Way below expectations)
3. She's Out Of My League - $9.6M. (On par with estimates)
4. Remember Me - $8.3M. (Best opening of his non-Twilight headlining films)
5. Shutter Island - $8.1M.
6. Our Family Wedding - $7.6M. (Good opening considering the low theatre count)
