A THIRTEEN-year-old boy was one of five members of a family who appeared in court on Monday, charged with possession of arms, ammunition and drugs.
The secondary school pupil pleaded not guilty to the charge, along with Eusebus Subero, Jennifer Subero and Julian Subero, all of Tabaquite, and Jenils Subero, of California.
His lawyer, Sharmila Williams, told the San Fernando Second Magistrates' Court the teenager was traumatised over the situation, as he had been in custody since his arrest last Friday. She added that the teenager, who was decked in a red and blue basketball vest and blue jeans, was an avid footballer and cricketer.
It was alleged the family had a 12-gauge shotgun, 12 rounds of ammunition and 335 grammes of cocaine. The cocaine, Magistrate Melvin Daniel was told, was for the purpose of trafficking.
Attorney Nicola Panday said her client, Jenils Subero, was the mother of a five-month-old child who was breast feeding. She added that Subero had no previous convictions. She was placed on $150,000 bail, along with Jennifer and Julian Subero. It was said Julian worked in Canada and was in Trinidad for the Christmas vacation.
Eusebus Subero, an employee with the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), who had a previous conviction for marijuana possession, was placed on $250,000 bail. Daniel granted the 13-year-old boy $60,00 surety bail.
He ordered the family to return to court next week Wednesday on the cocaine charge, while they are to attend the Couva Magistrates' Court on January 29 on the arms and ammunition charges.
