SHARIFA Walker, the 17-year-old girl who is nursing injuries at the Port of Spain General Hospital after being stuck in the face by a homeless man on Saturday, is now unable to see anything with her left eye.
Speaking from her hospital bed yesterday, Walker said even though the swelling had gone down, all she was seeing out of her left eye was a bright light.
"I can't see anything. All I see is a light, but I know that it will get better. I don't expect to wake up tomorrow and everything is back to normal. It will take some time, but I'm feeling better."
She added, "Today is one of my better days. I am just overloaded with painkillers right now."
Walker said all she wanted to hear the doctors say was that she could go home.
When she learnt that the man accused of striking her across the face had been sent to the St Ann's Hospital for evaluation, before charges are laid for any offence, Walker had disappointment written all over her face.
"They sent him to St Ann's? Well, he hurt me for the better, then? When he goes St Ann's, he's getting three square meals a day and clothes to wear. He is better off there than he was on the street."
Walker was struck with a piece of iron as she was walking along Independence Square and Abercromby Street, Port of Spain, on Saturday. She suffered injuries to her eyes and face. Her nose was also broken.
