Didn't see this posted, so thought I'd put it out there. Spider-man 4 or Spider-m4n was recently scrapped by Sony in favour of a total reboot a la Superman, Batman and Hulk after the director clashed with the writers over the script and quit saying he couldn't keep the creative integrity of the franchise. So no more Sam Raimi, no more Tobey Mcguire and (thank god) no more Kirsten Dunst.

But what you all think?

I think Spidey 1 and 2 were some of the best super-hero movies to come out of the last decade and were extremely successful. Spidey 3 was a mess but it once held the US record for the biggest opening weekend ever at $151M and is currently number two after The Dark Knight took it down with $158M.

Now I understand why they rebooted Superman, Batman and Hulk, because they all were coming off very terrible to middling predecessors and needed a fresh start. But Spider-man is one of the most successful franchises of all time with the three films grossing more than $1B in the US alone.

The plan is for the movie to return to Spider-man in highschool and be played by unknowns. So basically, yet another ORIGIN story. Sounds uninteresting to me.

So what are we thinking about this? Any Spidey fans out there?

The franchise only started in 2002! And this Raimi-Tobey era has ended already. I think Sony is making a big mistake, but let's see what hired director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) can do with the material.

This sounds interesting to me, and i belive it will be accepted but alot of people. People will not complain to seem more spiderman movies and like wise. But i still don't like the fact that most of the movie they are straying away from the main story line.

For example in x men i don't know why they have to kill off professor x , They should make movies out of the comics when wolverine lost his anamantium skeleton and he was able to recover him self from just a piece of flesh

first of all, the word is "Adamantium"lol.. anyways, i don't think people will accespt a Spiderman without Tobey and Sam Raimi at the helm. I think that Spidey 1 & 2 was the best. Part three was crap in my book. Sandman and at least Venom could've been developed a little more. Plus the whole movie was about Peter Parker chedding tears for every reason he gets...lol.. I am also in agreement with the director. Not about the material aspect though. The franchise should've ended at Spiderman 2. I hate it when Holloywood drags out a franchise. E.g. Final Destination & SAW. Would those movie franchise done already?

I think Spider-man can go on for years and still stay fresh. There is so much potential with characters and villains. I think Sony just got too greedy and wanted to control Raimi and the direction of the films even though he has done so well thus far. And he was right to walk away.

@ admin: I agree 1000% with you. They totally screwed the X-Men franchise with The Last Stand aka X3. But again, blame the studio, not the director. X-Men 1 and 2 were directed by the awesome Bryan Singer, X-Men 3 was directed the crappy Brett Ratner who destroyed everything the first two movies created.

X men could go on forever and i really mean that if they follow the comics, remember their are different x men comics because different authors made their own x men comics.

@TFM: Sorry but i disagree with you on that. X Men 3 aka X-Men: The Last Stand was if not the best of the trilogy, the second best. Bryan Singer is infact a talented director. But in my opinion, he didn't quite set a pace for the franchise when he did the first movie. X-Men 2 was when the franchise picked up some steam. Another thing..i think it was a mistake to cast Sir Ian Mckellen as Magneto. In the comic/series Magneto is ageble yes..but not Geriatric. X3 had more dept. than at least part 1. As for killing off the Professor, i think it added the shock value to the story. ( although he didn't really die) Questions surface in the viewer's mind as to how would they (X-men) carry on now that Xavier is gone. It added hopelessness and showed their resilience to carry on and do their job regardless of hopeless things seem. Pheonix's story and development was done that way to give credibility to the story. Had the writers gone in the direction of the *true* origin of Pheonix it would've thrown the whole balance off. They would have to explain the Gladiators (the guy that beat the crap out of the Jaggernauth) as well as the universe in a diamond that the pheonix protects etc. too much.

Well amm...as a girl who do not care about comics.....I Didnot think Spiderman used to be crying all the time and yes he was in love with mary Jane and what not but spider man suppose to be this invincible thing now a love struck puppy....It should continue but stay on the story line

The Pheonix story line is a big part of x men, and in x mean 3 they made her look evil, the Pheonix is the protector of the jewel that controls the comos or something like that as i remembered. They should have explained the story better but they made the Pheonix look like its some kinda of split personality than jean had which i did not like at all. I don't know about you guys but i don't like movies that stray away from the main story line.
If you are making a movie about a cartoon or anime stay to the story line remember its based on it so what divert from it

Not everything in a cartoon/comic can be made feasible when doing the live-action movie based on them. Like i said, Pheonix's story was done like that to bring credibility to the story. not every story arc in a comic can be successfully conveyed to the silver screen.

Nahhh Wispa65, I don't like X3 with a passion! It just ruined the franchise for me. Everything felt so disjointed. There was no cohesion and the storyline was bent on just making sure someone just died to tie up lose ends. I know the plot was like that because the studio wanted to end at a trilogy because the movies were becoming extremely expensive to make, but they didn't have to try and kill off everyone. X1 and X2 were stylish and sharp, X3 was clunky and raw. Don't get me started on the Phoenix! The end of X2 set it up so well, to only turn into the debacle that was X3...my problems with this movie will be never ending. Lol.
