What do you guys think about the Smoking laws in Trinidad and Tobago more specifically the law that pertains to smoking a tobacco product in an enclosed area.

Let me give you an example
When a person smokes a cigarette in an enclosed area he can be arrested and fined up to 10,000.

Now if the same person smokes weed in the same enclosed area are you aware that he will be charged for the possession of marijuana and fined around 300tt.

So tell me what do you guys think about this law.

I was not aware of this, probably because as far as I know the law regarding cigarette smoking in an enclosed area is not enforced. Possession of marijuana is more well known because it is enforced and word spreads as a result. I continue to find people smoking in restaurants, waiting rooms, parlors, people's homes, etc with no concern most likely because it is not enforced which contributes to a greater lack of knowledge all around.

I would hope that smokers would avoid smoking in enclosed areas out of common courtesy since others in that area would be forced to inhale second hand smoke which has even more harmful effects than smoking directly, but I guess I cannot expect as much if even the law is ignored.

I think its backward. Isn't weed supposed to be illegal? I'd think due to it being illegal it would carry a hefty fine once found in possession of any form.

Secondly, its not such a bad thing, cigarettes are too common and second hand smoking is actually more dangerous than actual smoking for individuals so the higher fine could potentially be a deterrent for certain people.

If it was as enforced as the marijuana law is.

I hate smoker's habits. Nothing is kool about being addicted to grass in a paper and smoking that twig 24/7, blowing out smoke like a Choo Choo train. It is uncool and very disgusting. It's not my business to tell people what to do with their lives. But it involves me when people want to smoke in a public place where i can get harmed by their gun-slinging cigarette . It needs to stop and all of it . Weed, cigarette , everything !
I think more serious penalities should be placed on these laws because we want to discourage this in society.

If people want to destroy their lungs in their own confined space that doesn't hurt anyone else, go right ahead. Do not blow cigarette smoke in my face though. I avoid cigarette smokers like the plague even though I'm pretty sure many don't see their smoking habits as something that can negatively affect others. I've yet to come across people smoking marijuana in public or blowing it in my face though, so I don't take issue with that. The main thing is that the cigarette law is not enforced, otherwise a few people I know would probably have learned a little lesson.

I'm fairly certain you come across people with weed a lot you just don't realise it.

My neighbour is a boy-next-door turned weed gully-rat now so i know the smell of weed. It burns your nose like a mofo ! Then people show up in the middle of the night to buy weed and watching you hard eye. Man i wish i can call the popo but the situation is complicated.

However, Trinidad is also taking about decriminalizing the weed so these laws are at a stand still

I'm not against weed TBH, my issue is just anybody smoking anything in my face and/or in enclosed areas. It's your life, and you have the right to make your choices, just don't make me or others suffer the consequences through our health and comfort for your poor lifestyle choices. Smoking should be someone's choice, and that choice is taken away when people are forced to inhale second hand smoke from any substance because the smoker does not have the courtesy or discretion to do otherwise.
