DOUBLE tragedy struck a Laventille mother of three children, after her husband and uncle were shot dead in separate incidents in Laventille and Beetham on Monday night and yesterday.
Liz Ramnath's husband, Horace Raymond, 50, was shot and killed on Monday night at Beverly Hills, Laventille; while her uncle, Anim Ramnath, 48, was killed while asleep at his Beetham Gardens home yesterday.
At the Forensic Science Centre in St James, yesterday Ramnath said her husband's killing was as a result of gang-warfare which had erupted in the Laventille community.
"Gang war made him die. He's not in anything. He hustles to provide for me and his three kids," she said with her eyes filled with tears.
Raymond, a PH taxi driver of Picton Road, Laventille, plied the Picton Road, Beverly Hills, Laventille route.
Ramnath said one week ago Raymond was robbed of cash and his cellphone at Beverly Hills. The matter was never reported to the police and Raymond continued working the Laventille route, even the area where he was robbed.
The Express was told Raymond had gone into the area to drop off a female passenger. He emerged from his vehicle to assist with her bags when he was pointed out by a group of men as being the relative of another man. The suspects approached him, shot him several times about the body, then continued assisting the woman with her bags. The suspects left Raymond's bloodied body on the roadway.
Police said Raymond's killing was linked to the shooting deaths of Aqua Sealy, in Barataria on Sunday night, and the murder of Anthony "Jack" De Four at Block Eight Laventille on Monday.
Sgt Andrew Lawrence, PCs Sankar and Kamal, of the Besson Street CID, visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
In the second incident, which occurred at Fifth Street, Phase One, Beetham Gardens, Ramnath's uncle was discovered by a relative with gunshot injuries in his bed around 7 a.m. yesterday.
Ramnath's sister, Ingrid Gulston, said one of her brothers went to check on Ramnath to remind him that he had to attend court yesterday, when he was discovered murdered. She said Ramnath, a father of seven kids, had a cocaine trafficking matter before the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court.
