CHRISTMAS at home for a poverty-stricken family has always been a sad time. But the generosity of Minister of the People and Social Development Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh yesterday brought tears, cheers and laughter for mother of 12 Chandra Maharaj and her family.

She could not thank Ramadharsingh enough for her early and best ever Christmas gift. Maharaj explained that during the Divali holidays, her 15-year-old son was doing odd jobs in the area when Ramadharsingh visited a garage to fix his vehicle. That incident was the turning point in life for the family members

“When the minister saw my son Kimraj working at such a young age, he asked him why he was not in school. Kimraj related to Mr Glenn the life of hardship and struggle he and his family have to go through. That is one minister who has a heart boy. Right now I don’t know if to laugh or cry,” Maharaj said.

Some people can take this story and turn it the wrong way but Im glad for the woman and her kids.

And in another story PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar brought joy and gifts yesterday to hundreds of children who attended the second installment of her Children’s Christmas Party at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima. Persad-Bissessar dressed in a red dress and a white jacket complete with a Santa hat hugged and greeted many children before handing out several gifts.
