Newly-elected Chaguanas Mayor Natasha Navas wants an audit of all of the operations of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC) over the past six years, including the award of contracts.

This period will comprise the tenure of the man who Navas replaced as the Chaguanas Mayor last week, Suruj Rambachan.

"I intend to write the CEO of the borough and ask him to initiate, as soon as possible, an audit of the borough, its finances, its assets, its liabilities, as well as its issue of contracts over the last six years," said Navas, a former marketing specialist at First Citizens.

In addition, Navas said she plans to hold a retreat with all the PNM and UNC councillors of the Corporation and Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner, who has taken much of the credit for her rise to the mayorship, and Chaguanas East MP Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, who is also the Minister of Public Utilities.

Navas made the announcements during her maiden speech on a political platform, at a meeting of the United National Congress Alliance Movement for Change at the El Dorado Community Centre in El Dorado last night, in an area where she attended secondary school.

The Movement for Change is being co-led by Warner and fellow Opposition MPs Jack Warner and Winston "Gypsy" Peters, who all sat at the head table with her during the night.

Speaking confidently to a crowd who had welcomed her warmly, Navas outlined her plans for the borough of Chaguanas, as she sought to paint the picture that her administration will be different than the one that had preceded it.

Navas did not say why she wanted to the audit the CBC's operations since 2003, but told the gathering that in Chaguanas "we will achieve our goals through open governance and though consulting with people at all levels". She told those gathered that she is not perfect and will make mistakes, but assured them that "whenever I am knocked down, I will rise again".

well she may get better at public speakin coz she attending public meetings with Jack and his followers and will show her tru collours soon, they are using her to get back at d UNC.

Navas said, “someone who has done so much should also give as much and do the proper thing in terms of moving on and leaving behind a legacy which he has built. I believe it is time for Mr Panday to move on." Who tell she to say that...........

In reply , Panday said “She is irrelevant to the politics of Trinidad and Tobago,” he said. “She is a novice and I don’t know what qualification she has for making statements like that.”

I'm not taking sides here but they have to be really na eave to say such a thing what does she know about politics even more what does that have to do with her she is the mayor, She's sticking her neck in a territory she would not be about to handle
