$2.7m from Govt for unsponsored steelband bands
The cheque presentation took place yesterday at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Port-of-Spain. The number of bands receiving funding increased from 165 last year to 171 this year.....Arts and Multiculturalism Minister Lincoln Douglas said the grant to unsponsored bands had increased by $100,000 to $2.7 million. The money was distributed yesterday to four regions—East, North, South/Central and Tobago—to assist with preparations for this year’s Carnival.......Unsponsored conventional bands were given $20,000 while single-pan bands each received $10,000 grants......
