This is A very stupid and unwise thing to do as quoted 'No vacation for cops this year'. The purpose of have vacation is for time to reduce stress levels and time for you family and recreation, when people don't get this they can become very stressed out and troublesome. THIS WILL NOT DO ANYTHING if the POLICE (most of them) Do a very bad job what you expect no vacation will do. It will not make them better, your wasting our money geez.
I'm sorry guys but i kinda find this is really stupid

Vacation leave for all police officers has been cancelled with effect from June 16-next Monday.

As a result, 579 police officers will now have to sacrifice the time they would have planned for rest and relaxation as part of new measures meant to reduce the nation's ever increasing high homicide rate.

Those new measures also include the "immediate" acquisition of additional arms, ammunition, bullet-proof vests and communications equipment for the Police Service.

The decision, which will cost taxpayers a total of $34.8 million, was announced by National Security Minister Martin Joseph yesterday more than five months after Police Commissioner Trevor Paul pulled in about 200 police officers who belonged to the Police Service's various national sporting teams into full-time law enforcement in January.

Joseph requested and received approval for the new measures from the Cabinet during its weekly meeting at Whitehall, Port of Spain and announced it during the news conference held there afterwards.

"The intention of the call out and suspension of vacation leave for all police officers for 2008 is to ensure a full compliment of police officers in full uniform on foot and mobile patrols throughout the country. There would also be continued collaboration with the Special Anti-Crime Unit, the Defence Force and other agencies within the Ministry of National Security," Joseph said.

"This call-out of 353 officers ranging from constables to Assistant Commissioners, takes effect from June 16, for a period of six months in the first instance," Joseph said.

He then announced "the suspension of approved leave for all police officers who were expected to be on vacation from July 1, 2008."

"This totals 226 officers ranging from constables to sergeants. The services of such officers will be retained for a period of three months in the first instance," Joseph said.

As for the additional arms, ammunition, bullet-proof vests and communications equipment that is to be acquired for the Police Service, Joseph said "they will be sourced through an arrangement with one of the international partners of the Ministry of National Security" which he did not identify.

Joseph said he held "an emergency strategic review meeting" with law enforcement heads last Friday "to develop and implement a sustained response to the upsurge in crime" and the new measures would "provide greater security and safety to the citizens of this country."
