A 14-YEAR-OLD schoolboy was fatally stabbed during a fight with a group of men after leaving a school party at the Woodbrook Youth Facility (WYF) on Saturday night.

Tony Jaggan of Cantaro Extension, Santa Cruz died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital at about 4.30 am yesterday. Jaggan’s 19-year-old friend Dwight Nichols, remains warded in critical condition at Port-of-Spain General Hospital. The killing pushed the murder toll to 528 for the year so far.

According to a police report, Jaggan, a form two student of Tranquillity Government Secondary School and Nichols of Le Platte Village, Maraval attended the Queen’s Royal College fete at the WYF on Saturday night.

At about 10.30 pm, Jaggan and Nichols left the party and were walking near the Jean Pierre Sports Complex when they had an altercation with a group of men who were in a car.

An eyewitness told police the driver of the car struck Nichols and when he fell to the ground, Jaggan asked the driver why he was driving in such a reckless manner.

A war of words erupted and one of the men got out of the car and stabbed Nichols, who was still lying on the road, with an ice-pick. Nichols got up, ran a short distance away and fell.

Jaggan was cornered by the ice-pick wielding man and stabbed several times in the back, arms and chest. The killer jumped back into the car which sped off.

St James police who were called in, took the bleeding teens to hospital where six hours later, Jaggan died following emergency surgery.

His distraught mother Lynette, speaking with Newsday at her Santa Cruz home yesterday, said she was at home asleep when she received a call that her son was stabbed and in hospital.

“When I reached the hospital, I saw my son being prepared for surgery and he asked me for some water but the doctor told me he could not have any because of the emergency surgery,” the mother of six stated.

She added that when surgery was completed and her son moved to a ward, it was discovered that he had internal bleeding and his condition deteriorated.

“The doctors discovered then that the heart of my son was punctured and it was while trying to save his life, that Tony died,” she said. Staring at a picture of her son, Lynette said although he was a bit wayward, he was a good person and had ambitions of becoming a mechanic.

“He would have turned 15 on Boxing Day and we were planning a little lime for him...now we have to plan his funeral,” she cried.

“I want justice because my child did not deserve to die like that, he had his whole life ahead of him and I know he would have fulfilled his dream of becoming a mechanic.” A team of Homicide Investigations Bureau officers are investigating. this reall sad boy... :icon_sad:
