This is the second consecutive year that the winner of the International Chutney Soca Monarch is determined through a text to vote system from the public... How knowledgeable is the population on musical creativity, lyrical value, presentation, vocal quality and other elements that make up a true artistic performance? It was clear that rum and alcohol took precedent in the songs that were sung at the monarch.... The International Chutney Soca Monarch, should exhibit the highest quality of chutney music. Gone are the days of pure lyrical art by Sonny Man and Sundar Popo. I seriously hope that private sponsors as well as the cultural division of the country reconsider the way in which they judge at this international event.
